Just the Five of Us
My sister Amber (who lives in Calgary) travelled to Oxbow for the weekend. It's the first time her boyfriend Chris has been to her hometown. We held a BBQ for the family to welcome them. Even though our families are changing & growing, it's nice for my parents & sisters to get together and reminisce about the times when it was just the five of us.

Painting for Friends
I did some probono painting yesterday and today for our friends Curt & Cindy...check out their color choices above. 9 rooms, 8 colors, 10 hands made quick work in two short days.
An update on what Cory has been up to at work lately (a request from Jenny). After we moved into our home in April, our construction business has been keeping busy with a wide variety of jobs in town. The first was an addition to the existing home of our friends Curt & Cindy (shown above & below). They wanted to add 600 sq/ft to their home to make room for their first born (due in a few weeks), add an office, main floor laundry and a spacious master complete with a walk-in-closet and amazing ensuite! I will post more photo as the addition approaches completion.

Pantry Re-Organization
BEFORE:
AFTER:
Since we moved in (4 months ago), items in the pantry have just been tossed around with no designated spot...aka: a messy disaster. It was time to put an end to this area of clutter, so Daddy was on duty with the kids for several hours while I got to work...I love to organize! It made sense to create/designate different sections in the pantry, so our family would know where to look for things.

The pantry in our home is located next to the mudroom on one side (where we enter the house from the garage & back door) and the kitchen on the other. When we designed our home, we wanted a walk-thru from the garage to mudroom to pantry to kitchen. It's great to have so much room just off of the kitchen for food storage. We placed our stand-up freezer in this area too.

Let me give you a tour of the newly organized pantry...
Top shelf: large boxed appliances (mostly for entertaining), candy jar and bulk items.
I formed a basket for guilty-snacks on the top shelf, that way the kids have to ask and won't be helping themselves anymore. Getting rid of all the packaging that comes with these snacks, freed up alot of space in the pantry.
Cans...these used to be on a corner shelf of the pantry. The shelves are so deep, I couldn't even reach them. So they are moved to a much more accessible spot and organized into common groups (tomatoes, mushrooms, artichokes, beans, fruits, fish, etc.). I stock up on canned food when it's on sale and often don't keep any more than this on-hand. It's so easy now to do a quick check to see what I have before I head off to the grocery store.
Maybe if I ever learn to make sushi, I'll be able to use this can of wasabi one day.
Snack Basket...we love chips in this house, not the most healthy choice but it could be worse. So like many pantrys out there, ours always had half full bags of chips lying around in different spots. I consolidated them all into this large basket. It's great to have it all in one place now and if there is a spill of an open bag, it's just in the basket.
More Snacks...yep, we're snackers! On the left we keep containers for tortilla & pita chips to keep them fresh. Microwave popcorn, ice cream cones, dried fruit, mini oreos, goldfish & trailmix. On the right a separate container for mini & large marshmallows. I also created a s'mores box (graham crackers & chocolate bars), so we can have a special treat at a moments notice.
This is a fun & yummy shelf!
Dry goods...Rice, lentils, pearl barley & oriental noodles live here.
Nuts...yep we're crazy about nuts! Containers for bulk nuts (for baking & putting on salads or to make our homemade trail mix) & snack nuts too.
Condiments, sauces, soup & pasta.
Bottom shelf...I wanted a shelf the kids are able to access. Some bulk juice, peanut butter, honey & granola bars.
The basket on the left contains all of the ready-to-make mixes I keep on hand. T hey used to slip thru the wire shelving, this is much better.
Also on the bottom shelf...crackers. I love to let the kids choose the crackers we are having for a snack.

Cereal...this used to be on the top shelf, which made no sense. Now the kids can go into the pantry and pick for themselves what cereal they would like for breakfast or to have for a dry snack.
Next to the cereal: granola, instant oatmeal, brown sugar & bulk popcorn kernels.
On the floor...I decided to put a couple of baskets: one for reusable grocery bags & the kids' lunch kits, and one for bottled water (so you can grab one when you're heading out the door or to the vehicle).
I'm a bottled water snob, I only prefer Nestle Pure Water...the best tasting as far as I'm concerned. I always disliked looking at the half-opened case of water and trying to reach in to get a bottle, now the packaging is gone and the bottles are easily accessible.
Doggie basket...located next to Piper's (our dog) food & snack containers. This basket is where all the dog's miscellaneous items belong: 'to-go' container of food, toys, brush, dog towel, wipes (for dirty paws). I love that when I ask the kids to clean up Piper's toys, they know exactly where they go.

I actually had a good time organizing the pantry. Who knows how long it will look like this, but at least this is a start and we can update it as our food needs change. We are lucky to have such a nice space we call our pantry.

Cups
Ace found these little cups in one of many BOXES we have yet to unpack. It's great to see how something so simple will become a toy-for-a-day.

Sunflower Field
During a quick trip to Minot, we stopped to take photos by a sunflower field. This was a first for our family and the kids were full of interesting 'sunflower' questions after we stopped!
It was a great photo opportunity!

Bodypainting with Pudding
The kids & I watch new episodes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 every Monday night. With all of the show's controversial issues aside, the kids on the show have alot of fun doing some cool activities! Like this one...painting their bodies with pudding, Scarlett couldn't wait to try it! Ace volunteered to paint his sister, but it was too messy for him.
Ace helping out!

The best part, as far as she was concerned, was being able to eat it!

We just hosed her off on the deck after we were done. This was so much fun!

Garden Shed
Cory has been hard at work doing preliminary prep work to our yard, as we'll be landscaping in full-force next year. Today he brought our shed over from our other property and placed it in it's permanent location. Next week we'll finish it up with siding to match the house.

Grandpa's Garden (well technically it's Aunt Michelle's garden)
I was honored when they asked me to come and take photos of their over-blossoming flower garden at their home in Alameda. Lots of color and lots of beautiful flowers.

Trip to the Beach!
The sun was finally shining around here, so we rushed to the beach. We are so lucky to have a lake 5 minutes away from our house. It took no time to pack up, head to the beach and meet the Irwin family for some fun in the sun!

Fun Friday!
The kids & I were invited to a playdate at Lachalle & Addison's house. Since moving back to this area, Lachalle & I have become friends. She is an amazing woman/mom/stamper and we share alot of the same interests. It was great to get together so the kids could have a play. Thanks for having us over, we had alot of fun and the kids didn't want to leave (especially after they discovered the crabapples)!
Lachalle & Addison whipped up this playdough for the kids to play with (as the weather wasn't looking too promising for outdoor play). The kids loved it and it smelled so good, here's the recipe courtesy of Lachalle:
KOOLAID PLAY DOUGH
3 cups of flour
1 cup salt
3 cups of water
6 tsp of cream of tartar
3 tbsp oil
I added whatever color or smell of kool aid that you would want the play dough to be.I used three packages of kool aid .

If you do not reach the desired color you wanted just add food coloring to it .

Put all of the above in a saucepan and have on medium heat until it forms a ball . Remove from heat let cool and knead to make sure everything is mixed well. Put in sealed containers or ziploc bags .

Enjoy !!!!

For all those girly girls. Add
dazzling diamonds to the play dough for a sparkly effect.

This evening we had the priveledge of having our nephew for a sleepover. It's been long overdue since this was the first time since we moved here, that he was able to stay. The kids all had a jacuzzi bath/swim, then we watched a special movie & didn't end up going to bed till 10:30!
